Audiometric Testing

Audiometric testing is a type of hearing test. It establishes a baseline measurement of the worker’s hearing and then repeats the testing at regular intervals to determine if there are any changes in the worker’s ability to hear.

How Audiometric Testing works

Occupational health audiometric testing, also known as occupational hearing testing or audiometry, is a diagnostic evaluation of an individual’s hearing abilities within the context of their workplace. It is performed to assess the impact of occupational noise exposure and to detect any hearing loss or impairment that may result from prolonged exposure to loud noise or other occupational hazards.

During an audiometric test, a trained healthcare professional, typically an audiologist or occupational health nurse, uses specialized equipment known as an audiometer. The individual undergoing the test wears earphones and is presented with a series of sounds or tones at different frequencies and volumes.
